Procedures for new users, projects, and project access
New user
All users must be registered as users in Science Linker at KPM IMB to be able to log in, and also to download the software (see below). Users must also be registered before they can be granted access to projects.
Request new user in Science Linker U000
New project
To register a new project (approved FOTS application) at the facility, the owner of the project (the principal investigator) should submit project information using the following form:
Request new project in Science Linker U000
To give users access to the project: See below.
New local "in vitro" project
To register a new "in vitro" project (approved locally by the facility), the owner of the project (the principal investigator) should submit project information using the following form:
Request new local in vitro project in Science Linker U000
To give users access to the project: See below.
Extension of existing project
To extend the end date of an existing project (approved FOTS application, or a local "in vitro" project): Please send an email to komparativ@medisin.uio.no, and attach the new approval letter for a FOTS application extension, or explain which local in vitro project you would like to extend.
Access to existing project
To be granted access to a project, the owner (principal investigator) of the project needs to send the request on your behalf to komparativ@medisin.uio.no with the following details:
Email subject: Grant access to existing project(s) in Science Linker U000
Email content:
Grant access to project(s): {A single project number, or several comma separate project numbers. Project numbers are either FOTS IDs (ex: 10999), or locally approved projects which have numbers starting with "A" (ex: A099)}
To user: {Science Linker username, Last name, First name}
Note 1: The curly braces {} and texts inside them should be replaced with the information described in the texts inside.
Note 2: To grant to more than one user in a single email: Add one line ("To user:") for each user.
Example: To grant access to the projects 11111 and 22222 for both user olanor (Ola Normann) and JOHEN (Johnny English), the content of the email should be:
Grant access to project(s): 11111,22222
To user: olanor, Normann, Ola
To user: JOHEN, English, Johnny

Some important points
- All cages should be placed in the racks according to positions specified on the cage cards and in the software (see "The Animal rack dialog window" in User manual)
- In addition to "unique id numbers", cages and animals in Science Linker have titles/names to help researchers organize and track animal lines and breedings. Titles must be specified when requesting breedings and when ordering animals. Researchers interacting with the animal facility should familiarize themselves with the naming system. This will be discussed in the information/training sessions (see also "Animal and cage names/titles" in User manual)
- A user will only have access to data belonging to projects he/she is a member of. For FOTS projects the project name is the FOTS Id. Non-FOTS projects start with the letter "A". Each project has a "Principal investigator" - for FOTS projects typically the responsible FOTS applicant. Regarding users migrated from Labtracks: In Science Linker, users have been given project membership according to their memberships to Labtracks "teams" belonging to the "Principal investigator"s. After the data migration from Labtracks to Science Linker, there will be some reorganization/cleanup to make sure that animals are registered on the correct FOTS projects.
Software and user manual
General Science Linker usage information: User manual
Users who are registered at KPM (see "New user" above) can download the Science Linker software from here: Science Linker U000
Use your SL username/password both when downloading the software and when logging into Science Linker. At KPM IMB most SL users are registered to use their UiO account. Users without a UiO account may have a non-UiO username (see "New user" above). Please note that access to the web user manual and download links is restricted to UiO addresses (+ some other Norwegian networks).
